Video Critique

Ross Lundholm

"Ross the Boss"

Ross incorporated his slogan well by using a song made by the boss himself, Rick Ross. He also had pictures that showed what he wanted to do when he grew up, which was make a business out of Boss Beats music label. The premiere skills used were not bad at all; he had pictures moving around and good transitions. It could have been more interesting, however, because it was only full of pictures. The video was 29 seconds.

Justin Vossen

"Just Lax"

Justin used his slogan very well by putting all and only lacrosse pictures and clips into his video. His premiere skills were admirable. He had different rotations and movement with his pictures, and incorporated video as well. It was a very interesting video because it kept me into it the whole time. The video was 30 seconds.

Shane McSparron

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going"

He used his slogan extremely well by using pictures to build up to the climax of the video, which was the second half of his slogan. Shane used transitions very well. It was interesting because the video lead up to the message he was trying to show. It was 25 seconds.

Eric Hatzenbuhler

"Never Look Back"

He used his slogan well because it was in almost all of his pictures. The transitions and movement of pictures were better than any I have ever seen. It was interesting to see how he communicated his message through skydiving, as well as a broken rearview mirror at the end. The video was 28 seconds.

Tiger Woods

Fan: I can not believe that a man of any sorts would get it in their right mind to go and do something like this. To cheat on your wife one time is horrible. Multiple times is unbelievable. It saddens me to think that a person that was once so well respected within the golfing community would stoop to this level. I would never have guessed that Tiger would do this. To me, this apology is long overdue. It is only the beginning to a long journey ahead for him. Personally, I do not think that he is going to ever be able to truly get back on track and become the man he once was. Sorry does not excuse these particular actions.

Reporter: Today, Tiger Woods appeared for the first time in public to give his apology speech. The anticipation had been mounting for this for a long time, as the apology has been long overdue. He apologized in an organized fashion with a written speech, seeming deeply saddened by what this situation has become. How hurt he is exactly, we do not know as the speech was rehearsed. He mainly stated that the majority of the situation is private between him and his wife, Elin. This is only the beginning for the long road ahead, for Tiger.

Superbowl Commercials

Doritos: Snack Attack Samurai

Doritos
No specific audience
They used humor as well as action to persuade the audience to buy doritos
They hid the "snack attack samurai" until the very last camera shot to show how much the guy loves the product
The slogan is "snack strong"
The message was very effective because it shows how much people love doritos. The humor really ropes in the audience too.

Troy "Punxsutawney" Polamalu
TruTV
Football fans
They used humor as well as a celebrity (Troy Polamalu) to convey their message
Troy is hidden until they finally pull him out and you can see the celebrity.
"Not reality. Actuality."
The message is extremely effective for football fans. The humor and big name works well with the groundhog idea.

10 Strong Years
Hyundai
People looking for cars
They use humor with the Brett Favre saga and a famous person.
Camera view isnt used much
The message is very effective because it intertwines footballl (which was what was on the television) and the cars warranty

"Newspaper closings raise fear about industry"

This is a very real thing that is happening in the world today. More and more companies are deciding to switch to other forms of news because that's where the people tend to find it. These other forms of news mainly being the television and the internet. I find it interesting that Minneapolis is one of the cities that may completely shut down all newspaper deliveries. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens

News Worthiness Notes

*What is news?
-news is an account of events that interest and concern the public.

*List and describe the six criteria of news worthiness

-Unusualness.. The different or out-of-the ordinary news. Usually found in bad news.
-Significance.. Important events; the ones that affect many people.
-Timeliness.. How quick or up-to-date the news is.
-Proximity.. The nearby events to your particular location.
-Prominence.. Well-known people, locations, or events in the news.
-Human interest.. Stories that would generally receive interest from the people

*What is the difference between print journalism and broadcast journalism?

-Print has a wider range of coverage of stories
-The people who read print can choose what they would like to read
-People who watch broadcast can watch clips/videos
-You can read a newspaper anywhere
-The broadcast is usually live so it's more up to date
-Print journalism usually has more on each story

*Examples of the six criteria

-Unusualness.. "USC offers 13-year old a scholarship"
-Significance.. "NATO rescues ship captured by pirates"
-Timeliness.. "Signing Day"
-Proximity.. "Newspaper Closings"
-Prominence.. "Saints stump Colts"
-Human Interest.. "Dog saves owner"

"Shark Kills Man at Florida Beach"

It is scary to think that an animal can take a human's life so close to home, here in the United States like that. I myself have never been a guy to go into the ocean, and stories like that do not help that at all. I am heading to Mexico over spring break, and reading this story does not make me want to venture into the ocean one bit.

Real Definition of Broadcast Journalism

Airing news/current events instantaneously through television, radio, or the internet.

Define "Broadcast Journalism"

To me, broadcast journalism is the displaying of news to the public. The newspaper, television, radio, and internet are all ways to broadcast this news out towards the people. It is important taht we do this so we have a sense of what is going on throughout the world.

What Happens to those 3-D Glasses After 'Avatar'?

ItalicThis article tells about what the movie theatres do with the 3-D glasses after being used for the movie, 'Avatar'. They say that the amount of glasses used could be layed out from Los Angeles to reach Greenland. I find that amazing! That is so many glasses... (almost 1 million glasses used per day). Clearly you can understand from this that the movie is an extroadinary hit to the people throughout the world. That is a lot of plastic, and requires a lot of cleaning!

Partner Interview Activity

For this activity I interviewed Jordan, a sophomore. The reason that she decided to take the Introduction to Journalism & Broadcast class is simple; because she believes she can excel in it. Jordan enjoys speech and debate, so she figures that she will do well because she is good at public speaking. This class is just that, only formatted a little bit differently.

Jordan currently has no job, but is looking at a possible opening at Caribou in Eagan. Some activities she has participated in consist of speech, debate, the musicals, softball, the one act play, student congress, and lacrosse. Outside of the school she has been involved in dance for 13 years.

I came to a conclusion that Jordan is unique because of the fact that she actually enjoys speaking in front of audiences. This is unique in the sense that many do not posess the skill - or even dread- of speaking in public. I also found out that she is very interested in cooking. Every night she cooks for her family; something most teenagers would not be able to claim.
